What did you do this past week?

In the past week I’ve been mostly focused on python and studying for the test since the material differed so much from the projects and I felt ill prepared for it. However I’ve also spent some time cleaning up our code from phase 1 and implementing better coding and styling practices. Since we finished phase 1 in such a hurry to meet the deadline, we wrote some messy code that was not fully uniform and that could seriously hamper future efficiency so I’ve begun phase 2 by cleaning up those errors and prepping our code base for future features.

What’s in your way?

We need to learn about setting up a backend which is new to us. We were able to progress pretty efficiently on developing the front end but it may take time for all of us to get comfortable with backend.

What will you do next week?

Since my primary responsibilities are to do with front end development, I’m most focused on ensuring that our front end code is clean and consistent and working on implementing dynamic pages based on apis that we are currently developing.

What was your experience of Test #1a? (no details about the questions, please; there are still make-ups to come) (this question will vary, week to week)

It was a unique test format that I’d never experienced before but matched the class content and format well. It was nice to know if your answer was right by having the opportunity to test and fix it before submission.

What made you happy this week?

I’m visiting home this week for the first time this whole semester and got to see my dog and family. In addition to this, after hours of trying to host a minecraft server on my laptop, I decided to host it on AWS and actually got it working pretty quickly which was really cool to see a technical CS skill I’d picked up help me in my personal life.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

the ES7 React/Redux/GraphQL/React-Native snippets VS code extension is amazing — it allows you to autofill react snippets with short codes. For example, typing ‘rce’ in an empty js file will fill the file with default react component code.
